Install the desktop app on your DIT's Mac

The Hotsheetz desktop app is where transcription happens — locally, on your own hardware, with no internet connection required for processing. It typically lives on the same computer your DIT or media manager already uses for transfers, so audio never has to move anywhere new.

Requirements

• A Mac running macOS 13 or later
• A Hotsheetz account and a show already created in Story Hub (see Set up your first show)

Step 1: Download

Grab the latest build from the download page. The page always shows the current version, release date, and SHA-256 checksum of the installer.

Step 2: Install

1. Open the downloaded disk image.
2. Drag HotSheetz.app into Applications, replacing any older copy.
3. Eject the disk image and delete the .dmg — it's no longer needed.
4. Double-click HotSheetz.app to launch. Builds are signed and notarized, so Gatekeeper opens them without ceremony.

Step 3: Sign in and pick your show

Sign in with the same email account you use on Story Hub — that's what links the app to your shows. Then select the show you're working on from the picker.

You can confirm the version you're running from the label on the sign-in screen. Future updates install from inside the app, so the .dmg dance is a one-time thing.

Step 4: A dry run before day one

Worth five minutes before the first shoot day: process a test audio file end to end. Point the app at a sample recording, let it transcribe, and confirm the transcript shows up in your show's Scene Explorer in Story Hub. If the test lands, day one will too.
